More and more, cyclists of all ages are using smart phone fitness apps to track their rides, add challenge or simply entertain themselves. Here is a brief list of some of the apps we have used and enjoyed.
RunKeeper by FitnessKeeper, Inc. (for iPhone and Android) Runkeeper is great for tracking all your fitness activities including running, walking, cycling, hiking, and more. The app dashboard shows your performance records including miles, time, speed and heart rate.
Mapmyride (for iPhone and Android) Every hardcore bicyclist should have this GPS fitness tracking application, allowing you to make the most of your trips. Track your route, pace, speed, distance, elevation, calories burned, time, progress and improvement, all on an interactive map.
Endomondo Sports Tracker (for iPhone and Android) Track your workouts, challenge your friends, and analyze your training. It’s fun, it’s social and it’s motivating. This sports community based on real-time GPS tracking offers a complete training log for your running, cycling, or other sports.
B.iCycle by Valley Development GmbH (for iPhone, Android and Windows phones) If running and gym workouts aren’t your thing, try going for a ride. B.iCycle uses your phone’s GPS to track your road or mountain bike rides, recording distance, speed, altitude, time, and calories burned. You can even see real-time progress on the app’s map!
Strava Cycling (for iPhone, Android and Garmin) With a 5-star rating and over 7,000 reviews, the cycling community has spoken that this is the best app available for cyclists. Track your runs, rides and cross-training too. Upload your activities, log your workouts, compare and compete, and challenge yourself.
Bike Repair (for iPhone) While this app is a little more expensive than the others on the list, the features it offers are critical for anyone who plans to bike longer distances. It comes with 64 detailed guides with photos designed to help you through the process of fixing anything that goes wrong with your bike.
Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyfitnessPal (for iPhone) If you really want to take your cycling to the next level, you are going to want to be in the best shape possible.
